Day 31: July Beauty Favorites

July has been the shittiest month of the year. My mom had to go to the emergency room on three separate occasions, and my dog died. So, yeah, I haven’t been using many beauty products. Here are the three that stood out.

Bumble and bumble Surf Spray: After quite a long time of blow drying my hair as straight as possible, I decided to leave it alone and let it do what it wants. The problem is that, while my ends are wavy, my roots like to hug my scalp like they’re a kindergartner clinging to Mommy on the first day of school. A few spritzes of this into wet hair, and I suddenly have volume! I love this stuff. You have to be careful not to use too much, or the hair will start to feel a little crispy.

Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron: To paraphrase Cartman, “this is the moisturizer you use before your moisturizer to make your moisturizer work better.” That’s literally what it does. It’s a hyaluronic acid serum — hyaluronic acid, according to Indeed Labs, “holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water… for better hydrated, moisture nourished, plumped up skin” — that does precisely what it claims to do. The dry, flaky patches I used to get around my nose are a thing of the past thanks to this stuff.

Nivea A Kiss of Milk & Honey Soothing Lip Care: I go through lip balm like nobody’s business, and while I have tried a few pricey balms, I always go back to Nivea when I need a new one. They work every bit as well as Fresh’s uber-expensive tubes ($21 for a lip balm? Ain’t nobody got time for that!) for a fraction of the price.

So those are my favorites for July. I'll be back with my non-beauty favorites when normal M-F blogging resumes Monday. This has been a challenging challenge, but I've appreciated having something to take my mind off of the stress and sadness.
